South Australia Opens 2024-25 Skilled Migration Program: Opportunities Await for Onshore and Offshore Applicants

2024-25 skilled migration program

South Australia’s state-nominated skilled migration program for 2024-2025 is officially open, offering a range of opportunities for skilled professionals both onshore and offshore. With 464 occupations available for onshore applicants and 427 occupations for experienced overseas workers, South Australia is poised to address skills shortages across various industries.

Onshore Streams:

Eligible onshore applicants who meet the program’s requirements can now submit a Registration of Interest (ROI). ROIs will be reviewed throughout the year, with successful applicants receiving invitations to apply for state nomination through one of the following streams:

  • Skilled Employment in South Australia Stream: This stream is designed for applicants who have demonstrated a commitment to South Australia and possess local work experience in their skilled occupation. It is an ideal pathway for those already contributing to the state’s workforce.
  • South Australian Graduates Stream: South Australia continues to prioritize retaining talent by offering this stream to graduates who have studied and are working in their skilled occupation within the state. This stream supports those who have already invested in their education and career in South Australia.
  • Outer Regional Skilled Employment Stream: Aimed at addressing skills shortages in South Australia’s outer regional areas, this stream supports applicants working in the regions in their nominated or closely related occupation. It offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of South Australia’s regional communities.

Offshore Stream:

For skilled professionals residing overseas, South Australia is offering 427 occupations through the offshore stream. The state anticipates regular offshore invitation rounds throughout the program year, with the first round starting at the program’s opening and subsequent rounds occurring at the end of each month from September 2024. Prospective migrants with skills in high demand are encouraged to ensure their SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI) is up-to-date and that South Australia is selected as their primary state of interest.

Business Innovation and Investment Program:

While the skilled migration program is in full swing, South Australia is currently not open to new applications for state nomination under the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188). However, business or investor migrants who already hold a provisional visa (subclass 188) can still apply for nomination under the extension stream or for a permanent visa (subclass 888), provided they meet the necessary requirements.

This year’s program reflects South Australia’s ongoing commitment to attracting skilled professionals and addressing the state’s labor market needs. Whether you are an onshore applicant or an experienced worker from overseas, the 2024-25 skilled migration program offers a clear pathway to living and working in one of Australia’s most dynamic states.
